GENUM

The Generative Art Texts Database Project aims at creating a database of web information sources concerning the general category of using generative principles in art. The database is maintained as a self-sufficient generator of its own content, which provides more than apt and accurate comments to the relevant issues. The question of the scope of possibilities of using the elements of randomness or generating on the basis of pre-defined assumptions is so broad that the answer may probably be found only in itself. The project thus offers a specific methodological framework for defining a concept otherwise extremely difficult to grasp. It does so through delegating the basic task of answering the question onto a set of rules and parameters on the basis of which the databases chooses, on its own, relevant Internet links, texts or multimedia formats. After “breathing life” in it initially by its author Jana Bernartová, the database thus becomes a self-sufficient entity, an information collector and holder. In their mutual unity, the collected data enter into new contexts, thus allowing understanding in a much broader perspective than provided by common Internet search only.
